A Chilling Warning in the Park

The autumn wind swept through the park, sending a flurry of amber leaves dancing across the cold wooden bench. Matthew wrapped his arm tighter around his eight-year-old daughter, Ella. She sat quietly, her dark sunglasses shielding her eyes from the pale sun, her small hands gripping the folding cane she had used for the last two years. To the world, Ella was a fragile soul living in darkness. To Matthew, she was his entire universe.

Suddenly, the crunch of dry leaves broke the silence. A young boy, no older than twelve, stepped out from behind a maple tree. He was grimy, wearing a stained blue hoodie, his eyes wild and alert. He stopped right in front of them, staring directly at Ella, then shifted his gaze to Matthew.

Matthew frowned, instinctively pulling Ella closer. But before he could speak, the boy leaned in close, his voice a harsh whisper. "Your daughter isn't blind."

Matthew froze. The world seemed to stop spinning. He stared at the kid in utter disbelief. "What did you just say?"

"Your daughter isn't blind," the boy repeated, his expression deadly serious.

"What?" Matthew stammered, his heart hammering against his ribs. "Who are you? What kind of sick joke is this?"

The boy didn't flinch. He leaned even closer, his voice dropping to a barely audible murmur. "I saw her look. Last night. She looked right at the window. She saw me."

Panic and anger flared in Matthew's chest. He reached out, his hands gripping the boy’s shoulders. He didn't want to believe it, yet a primal instinct told him not to walk away. "How do you know this? Who are you?"

"My name is Noah," the boy whispered, trembling slightly. "I sleep near your house. In the alley behind your garage."

A cold dread washed over Matthew. His grip tightened. "What did you see, Noah? Tell me!"

Noah looked around nervously, as if expecting someone to jump out from the shadows. Then, he looked Matthew dead in the eye. "It's your wife. She puts something in her food. Every single day."
