My Daughter Was Blind Until A Homeless Boy Revealed My Wife’s Dark Secret
Previously: When a young homeless boy tells Matthew that his blind daughter can actually see, Matthew uncovers a chilling secret his wife has been keeping right under his nose.
The Poison in the Plate
Matthew’s mind raced as he drove home, the silence in the car deafening. Beside him, Ella hummed a sweet, familiar tune, completely unaware of the storm brewing in her father’s chest. Was it possible? Could his wife, Diana, the woman who had stepped in to help raise Ella after her biological mother passed, be capable of something so monstrous? Diana was a pharmacist, highly respected and always attentive to Ella's "special medical needs."
When they arrived, Diana greeted them with her usual warm smile, offering Ella a fresh bowl of homemade vegetable soup. "Eat up, sweetheart. It will warm you right up," Diana said, kissing the top of Ella's head.
Matthew watched Diana’s hands. They were steady, but as she turned her back to fetch a glass of water, Matthew noticed a tiny, unlabeled brown vial sitting near the spice rack. His blood ran cold.
"I'll feed her tonight, honey," Matthew said, forcing his voice to remain calm. "Why don't you take a quick shower? You've had a long day."
Diana hesitated for a fraction of a second, her eyes darting to the soup, but she smiled and nodded. "That's very sweet of you, darling."
The moment the bathroom door closed upstairs, Matthew acted. He grabbed a clean plastic bag from the drawer and carefully poured half of Ella’s soup into it, sealing it tightly and hiding it in his coat pocket. He replaced the missing portion with plain broth from the stove. Then, he sat next to his daughter.
"Ella," Matthew whispered, his voice shaking. "Can you look at me?"
Ella turned her head toward him, her pupils widely dilated, staring blankly into space. "I can't see you, Daddy," she whispered softly.
The next morning, Matthew took the soup sample to a trusted friend who worked at a private toxicology lab. He begged for an immediate rush analysis. A few hours later, the phone rang. His friend's voice was grim. "Matthew, this soup contains high doses of a specialized ophthalmic drug. It causes severe, temporary pupil dilation and blurred vision. If taken daily, it would make someone virtually blind."
