Panic seized Damian. He lunged across the table, a desperate attempt to snatch Barnaby, knocking over a crystal tumbler of scotch. The glass shattered, its contents spilling across the polished wood like spilled secrets. In that instant, the frosted glass doors burst open. Heavy footsteps echoed as armed federal agents stormed in, their laser sights painting red targets across Damian’s expensive suit. “Wait! That footage is illegal!” he shrieked, spit flying from his bared teeth, his voice a frantic, stammering mess. “It’s inadmissible, you broke peasant bitch!” But his pleas fell on deaf ears. As two burly marshals slammed him face-first onto the table, twisting his arms behind his back, the presiding judge’s booming voice echoed from the monitor: “Full custody granted immediately to the mother, warrant issued for felony obstruction!” I rose, cradling Barnaby, tears of vindication streaming down my face. The humiliation and terror of the past three years washed away, replaced by a profound sense of relief. Damian, cuffed and defeated, his face pressed into the wet table, his eyes wide with paralyzed horror, was finally facing the consequences. “Flight boarding for our new life, Damian…” I whispered, my voice carrying a haunting finality. “…and you’re grounded forever.” As I turned my back on him, walking towards the exit with Barnaby clutched tight, the storm outside began to subside, replaced by the quiet dawn of a new beginning.
