Previously: When Julian stopped spinning me on our tenth anniversary, I thought he was just out of breath. Then his mistress stepped onto the dance floor, wearing my grandmother's missing diamond necklace.

The silence in the ballroom was deafening as I walked away from Julian, heading straight toward Victoria. The crowd parted, whispers spreading like wildfire. Victoria didn't flinch as I approached. Instead, she raised her chin, a triumphant smirk playing on her lips.

The Mask Slips

"Nice necklace, Victoria," I said, my voice echoing slightly in the quiet room. "I didn't know Julian's generosity extended to family heirlooms."

"Julian has always appreciated my hard work, Clara," Victoria replied, her tone dripping with mock sympathy. "He wanted me to have something that truly suited me."

Julian rushed to my side, grabbing my arm. "Clara, that's enough. You're embarrassing yourself. We are leaving right now."

I shook his hand off, looking him dead in the eye. "No, Julian. I want to hear it from you. Did you steal my grandmother's necklace to give to your mistress?"

Seeing that his secrets were laid bare before his business partners and family, Julian's charming facade shattered. His face twisted into a sneer. "So what if I did?" he hissed, loud enough for those nearby to gasp. "You've been a boring, nagging wife for years. You don't deserve this lifestyle anyway."

Before I could respond, Julian's father, Arthur, stepped forward from the crowd. He was the founder of the family firm, and his face was pale with rage. But he wasn't looking at the necklace. He was staring at his phone.

"Julian, you fool," Arthur said, his voice trembling with anger. "The board of directors just received an anonymous email. All your offshore accounts, the embezzlement from the firm... it's all here. The police are already on their way."

Julian froze, looking between his father and me. "What? No, that's impossible. Who would have access to those files?" His eyes locked onto mine, filled with sudden terror as he realized the depth of the trap he had walked into.
