The marble foyer of the grand estate was usually a showcase of pristine, cold elegance. But on this Tuesday afternoon, it felt more like a prison to seven-year-old Lily. Dressed in a simple denim shirt, her small frame trembled as she pushed a heavy, water-logged mop across the polished tiles. Tears streamed down her cheeks, leaving wet tracks on her dusty face.

Standing over her was Eleanor, her stepmother. Clad in designer loungewear, her brown hair pulled back into a casual ponytail, Eleanor munched on crackers with a look of utter indifference.

"Clean it again," Eleanor commanded, her voice devoid of any warmth.

Lily stopped, her tiny shoulders shaking. She squeezed the rough handle of the mop, her knuckles white. "My hands hurt," she whimpered, looking up with pleading eyes.

Instead of offering comfort, Eleanor glared directly at the security camera mounted in the corner of the high ceiling. A cruel, calculated smile touched her lips. "Then cry quieter," she snapped.

Outside in the driveway, sitting in the driver’s seat of his SUV, Richard stared at his smartphone screen. The live security feed played in high definition, capturing every agonizing second. He had set up the cameras to ensure his daughter’s safety, never imagining the threat would come from inside.

"Please, I want dad!" Lily’s voice crackled through the phone speaker, desperate and broken.

On screen, Eleanor sneered. "He won't see this."

Richard’s grip tightened on his steering wheel until his knuckles turned white. "I see everything," he muttered, his voice dripping with a mixture of pure rage and heartbreak.

Before Eleanor could utter another word of torment, the front door of the mansion was thrown open with a violent crash. The heavy oak door slammed against the wall, rattling the glass panes. Eleanor’s smug, triumphant smile withered instantly, replaced by a mask of absolute terror as Richard stepped into the foyer, his eyes burning with fury.
