My Stepbrother Begged to Open Our Father's Casket, Unaware of the Dark Secret Inside
The Sealed Casket
The air in the living room was thick with the suffocating scent of lilies and melting wax. Heavy velvet curtains blocked out the afternoon sun, casting the space into a somber, melancholic twilight. Maria stood rigid beside the polished mahogany casket, her black mourning dress absorbing the flickering candlelight. Her hands trembled, not from grief, but from a terrifying secret. Inside the wooden box, she knew, lay a living nightmare.
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the parlor burst open. Leo, her stepbrother, stumbled into the room, his ash-blonde hair disheveled and his deep blue formal suit crumpled from travel. Tears streamed down his face as his voice cracked with raw agony.
"Dad! Dad! No, it can't be true!"
Leo collapsed onto the heavy lid of the casket, his shoulders shaking with violent sobs. The impact sent a shudder through the wood. Beneath him, hidden from view, his father Arthur lay bound and gagged, duct tape sealing his mouth. Arthur's eyes were wide with sheer terror, his chest heaving as he listened to his son's desperate weeping from just inches away.
"When did all this happen, Maria?" Leo choked out, looking up at her with bloodshot eyes. "I was only gone for a week. I need to see him. I want to see my father one last time."
Panic flared in Maria's chest. She lunged forward, her fingers gripping Leo's shoulders with frantic, bruising force. She leaned in close, her voice a desperate, hurried whisper.
"No, Leo, you can't! It can't be opened. Your father had a disease. A very contagious, aggressive strain. The doctors warned us that opening the casket poses a severe biohazard risk to everyone in this room."
Inside the dark, suffocating chamber, Arthur heard his stepdaughter's monstrous lie. He desperately tried to thrash, but the tight space and his bindings held him hopelessly trapped, his muffled cries echoing only in his own ears.
