My Stepfather Kept Me in a Wheelchair for My Inheritance Until a Stranger Saved Me
The Miracle at the Gala
The grand ballroom of the Vance estate was a breathtaking sight, its high ceilings reflecting the glittering lights of the sprawling city skyline below. But for twenty-five-year-old Chloe, the elegant party felt like a gilded prison. Draped in a stunning rose gold gown, she sat quietly in her wheelchair, surrounded by wealthy guests who offered polite, pitying smiles. For five years, ever since the tragic accident that claimed her mother’s life, Chloe had been unable to walk. Her stepfather, Richard, stood nearby, raising a champagne glass to the crowd, preparing to announce that Chloe was signing over her mother's multi-million dollar inheritance to his permanent conservatorship.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors burst open. A disheveled young man ran into the ballroom, dodging the startled security guards. He had a thin, bleeding cut on his cheek, and his clothes were torn, yet his eyes were locked entirely on Chloe. Before anyone could stop him, he rushed to her side and knelt on the polished marble floor.
"I can help," he whispered, placing his hand gently on her lap.
Chloe looked down in utter confusion, her heart racing. Who is this stranger? she wondered. Aloud, she asked, "Who are you?"
The young man gazed up at her with intense, unwavering determination.
"Trust me," he whispered. "One, two, three."
As he spoke the final number, a sudden, rushing warmth flooded Chloe's legs. It was an electric sensation she hadn't felt in half a decade. Gasps echoed through the ballroom as Chloe slowly, miraculously, rose to her feet. She stood fully upright, trembling with shock. "How?" she whispered.
The young man smiled softly, tears glistening in his eyes.
"My mom said your heart would..."
Chloe's eyes fell to his neck, where a heavy silver crest pendant hung. It was the exact crest of her mother's family. Touching the cold metal, she gasped, "Where did you get that?"
The stranger's smile widened with deep warmth.
"She said... you're mine."
