My Stepmother Tortured My Daughter While I Was Away—Then I Checked the Security App
The Secret Feed
Richard sat in his car, the engine idling quietly under the canopy of the old oak tree at the end of the driveway. He had told his new wife, Eleanor, that he was leaving for a three-day business trip to Chicago. He had packed his suitcase, kissed his eight-year-old daughter, Lily, and walked out the door. But a persistent, uneasy feeling in his chest had prevented him from driving to the airport. Instead, he pulled over, pulled out his phone, and opened the newly installed home security application.
On the high-definition screen, the opulent marble foyer of his home came into view. Lily was on her knees, her small frame trembling as she struggled to push a heavy, industrial-sized mop across the wet floor. Her dark hair was disheveled, and tears rolled down her pale cheeks. Standing over her was Eleanor, her short blonde hair perfectly styled. She was casually tossing nuts into her mouth from a silver bowl, watching the child with an expression of cold detachment.
"Clean it again," Eleanor commanded, her voice sharp and devoid of warmth.
Lily paused, squeezing the dirty mop head with her tiny hands. "My hands hurt, Eleanor," she whimpered, her voice cracking with exhaustion. Indeed, even through the screen, Richard could see his daughter's palms were raw, chafed, and red from the harsh cleaning chemicals.
Eleanor didn't soften. Instead, she slowly turned her head and glared directly at the hidden security camera nestled in the corner moulding. It was as if she knew she was being watched, yet felt entirely untouchable.
"Then cry quieter," Eleanor snapped.
Lily began to sob openly, her small shoulders shaking.
"Please, I want my dad! I want my dad!" she begged.
Eleanor let out a cruel, mocking sneer.
"He won't see this," she said. "He's on a plane."
In the car, Richard’s knuckles turned white around his steering wheel. "I see everything," he whispered, his voice trembling with a terrifying mixture of heartbreak and absolute fury. He slammed the car into drive and roared back up the driveway.
