Previously: When a disheveled stranger touched paralyzed Clara’s feet, a golden light restored her walk. But his parting words, "Soon you will remember me," unlocked a dark, forgotten family secret.

The Bitter Reaction

Before Clara could demand answers, the stranger stood up and vanished into the dense woods surrounding the estate, leaving only the fading scent of ozone and pine. Amelia stood frozen, but Clara was consumed by a sudden, overwhelming impulse. Gripping the armrests of her wheelchair, she pushed herself upward. To Amelia’s absolute horror and amazement, Clara stood firmly on her own two feet.

"My lady! It’s a miracle!" Amelia cried, tears streaming down her face.

Clara took one hesitant step, then another. Her legs were strong, fully healed. But her joy was short-lived. The heavy iron gates of the estate swung open, and her uncle, Julian, stepped out of his carriage. Seeing Clara standing, his face did not register joy. Instead, a mask of sheer terror and fury washed over his features.

"What is the meaning of this?" Julian demanded, his voice trembling as he marched toward them. "Who did this to you?"

Amelia quickly explained the arrival of the soot-stained young man and the magical golden light. As she described the stranger's features, Julian's face drained of all color. He gripped his cane so tightly his knuckles turned white.

"Lock the gates!" Julian roared to the guards. "If that vagrant returns, shoot him on sight! Clara, you must return to your room immediately. This is dark magic, a curse disguised as a cure!"

Clara was baffled by her uncle's aggressive reaction. Why would he be angry that she could walk again? That night, unable to sleep, Clara walked—on her own two feet—to Julian's private study. She had always been forbidden from entering, but tonight, she needed answers. Slipping inside, she began rummaging through his mahogany desk. Deep within a hidden compartment, she found a dusty leather journal and an old photograph that made her heart stop. It was a photo of her as a teenager, laughing alongside a handsome young boy with bright, familiar eyes—the very same young man who had healed her.
