Previously: When Police Captain Sarah's sister Chloe is hospitalized after a suspicious crash, a sudden hospital room attack forces Sarah to fight for her sister's life and uncover a shocking betrayal.

The Dark Conspiracy

Leaving the SWAT team to secure Mark in a holding cell downstairs, Sarah locked the hospital room door and knelt beside Chloe. She gently pulled her sister's hands away from her tear-stained face. "Why is he doing this, Chloe? This wasn't a normal car accident, was it?" Sarah asked, her voice low and demanding. Chloe swallowed hard, her eyes darting to the door before she finally spoke in a trembling whisper. "He’s working with them, Sarah. He knows what I found."

"I found the ledger. He's been helping launder money for the local drug syndicate, and he's not the only one. There are cops on our own payroll."

The words hit Sarah like a physical blow. As a police captain, she had dedicated her life to the badge. The thought of corruption in her own precinct made her blood run cold. Chloe explained that the "accident" was a deliberate attempt by Mark to retrieve an encrypted flash drive containing the names of everyone involved. She had hidden it in her purse, which was currently locked in the hospital’s secure storage room.

Suddenly, the ward's power flickered and died, plunging the hospital into near-darkness. The red emergency backup lights kicked on, casting an eerie glow across the room. Over the intercom, a tense voice announced a security breach on the lower floors. Sarah's radio crackled to life, but only static returned. She realized with sickening clarity that Mark's sudden outburst had been a distraction. The syndicate was here to finish the job, and they had helpers on the inside. Sarah drew her service weapon, her heart hammering against her ribs as footsteps approached the door.
