Previously: When John returned home early from the grocery store, he never expected to find his mother's highly-recommended nurse violently abusing her in their own kitchen.

The Mask Slips Completely

With Amanda pinned against the refrigerator, John immediately dialed 911, his hands shaking with a mixture of adrenaline and pure fury. Amanda, realizing she was caught, stopped struggling and let out a cold, mocking laugh that sent chills down John's spine. She adjusted her crumpled floral blouse and stared at him with venomous eyes.

"You think you're so smart, John?" she hissed. "Go ahead, call the police. It's my word against yours, and your mother's mind is practically gone. Who do you think they'll believe?"

But John had a secret of his own. Weeks prior, Beatrice had complained about losing some of her favorite jewelry—sentimental pieces left by John’s late father. Believing his mother might have misplaced them due to her worsening memory, but wanting to be absolutely sure, John had secretly installed a small nanny camera disguised as a wall charger near the kitchen pantry.

Pointing to the small device on the wall, John's voice was deathly quiet. "I don't need her word, Amanda. I have it all on camera. Every single second of it."

The color drained from Amanda’s face. She lunged toward the pantry to grab her purse, desperately trying to flee the house, but John blocked the doorway. Within minutes, the distant wail of sirens grew louder, eventually stopping right outside the house. Two police officers burst through the front door, taking in the chaotic scene of spilled groceries, a crying elderly woman, and a frantic caregiver.

As the officers handcuffed Amanda, they searched her large handbag. Inside, they didn't just find her personal belongings; they uncovered Beatrice's missing gold wedding band, several expensive diamond rings, and a bottle of heavy sedatives that had never been prescribed by Beatrice's doctor. The betrayal was complete, but as the officers ran her identification, they made a discovery that left John completely paralyzed with shock.
