A Rough Biker Steps in When a Terrified Girl Whispers Four Words
Previously: When a frightened young woman seeks shelter in a stormy diner, a gruff biker and his club stand up to protect her from a looming threat outside.
The Shadow from the Past
The tension in the diner was thick enough to cut with a knife as the front door swung open once more. Three men walked in, water dripping from their heavy coats. At the front was Marcus, a sharp-eyed man in a tailored suit that looked entirely out of place in the retro diner. He scanned the room until his eyes locked onto Lily, who shrank back behind Jax's towering frame.
"Lily, stop this nonsense," Marcus said, his voice dripping with forced warmth. "You're coming home with us. Your mother is worried."
Lily gripped the back of Jaxโs leather vest, her knuckles turning white.
"He's lying," she whimpered. "He took everything after my dad died, and now he wants me gone so I can't speak to the lawyers. Please don't let him take me."
Jax didn't move an inch. He crossed his massive arms over his chest, staring down at Marcus with cold, unyielding eyes. The atmosphere in the diner shifted from tense to explosive. Cole and the rest of the club flanked Jax, forming an impenetrable wall of leather and muscle between Lily and the intruders.
"The girl said she's not going anywhere," Jax said, his voice carrying a dangerous edge. "I suggest you turn around and walk back out into the rain."
Marcus sneered, gesturing to the two large men standing behind him.
"Do you really want to get involved in family business, biker? You don't know who you're dealing with. Move aside, or we'll make you."
Jax let out a dry, humorless chuckle that sent a shiver down Marcus's spine. "You think you're the first suit to threaten us?" he asked, stepping forward. The sheer physical presence of the club made Marcus's hired muscle hesitate, their confident postures suddenly faltering.
