He Saved Me From His Jealous Wife and Revealed I Was Actually His Granddaughter
The Confrontation in the Corridor
The plush carpet of the Grand Regency Hotel did nothing to muffle the sound of Sophie’s frantic breathing. Dressed in a soft peach gown that gently hugged her visibly pregnant belly, the twenty-three-year-old slid down the cold wallpapered wall, sobbing uncontrollably. Her knees buckled under the weight of her sheer exhaustion and terror. Standing over her like a predator was Lauren, her uncle's glamorous but fiercely cold-hearted wife, clad in a deep purple designer dress.
"You don't belong here, Sophie," Lauren whispered, her voice dripping with venom. "You are a stain on this family's reputation. If you don't take the money I offered and disappear before the gala ends, I will make sure you and that bastard child of yours have absolutely nothing."
Sophie clutched her stomach, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. She had only come to the charity gala to see her beloved Uncle Richard, the wealthy patriarch who had quietly funded her education and checked on her from afar. She never expected Lauren to corner her in the deserted hallway, turning a night of celebration into a living nightmare.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the end of the hallway burst open. The rapid, heavy thud of leather shoes echoed against the polished walls. It was Richard. His grey hair was slightly disheveled, and his black formal suit seemed to vibrate with pure rage as he charged down the corridor.
"Stay away from her!" Richard bellowed, his voice shaking the very light fixtures above them.
Lauren gasped, her aristocratic composure instantly shattering. She raised her manicured hands defensively, stepping back from the weeping girl on the floor.
"Richard, darling! There's a misunderstanding!" Lauren stammered, her face turning pale.
Sophie looked up through a veil of tears, reaching out a trembling hand toward the man who had always been her protector.
"Uncle Richard..." she pleaded, her voice cracking with emotion.
But Richard didn't look at Sophie just yet. His furious, piercing eyes were locked entirely on his wife. He stepped between them, pointing a menacing finger directly into Lauren's terrified face.
"Touch my granddaughter again, and you're finished," he growled.
A single, cold tear slipped down Lauren's face as the gravity of his words hung heavily in the silent hallway. Sophie froze, her heart stopping. Granddaughter?
