The Nightmare Under the Bed

For three years, Grace had been the perfect housekeeper at Vance Manor, a secluded estate belonging to the wealthy and eccentric George Vance. George was a frail man with thinning white hair, spending most of his days resting in his gilded baroque bedroom. He was a generous employer, but he had one non-negotiable rule: "Never look under my bed, Grace."

On a stormy autumn night, the wind howled against the stained-glass windows. Grace was finishing her nightly rounds, quietly dusting the antique vanity in George's chamber while the old man slept peacefully. That was when she heard it—a low, wet rasping sound coming from the shadows beneath the massive gold-carved bed.

Her heart hammered in her chest. She tried to convince herself it was just the old pipes, but then she heard a distinct, metallic scratch. Unable to contain her anxiety, she grabbed her flashlight, knelt on the cold floor, and slowly aimed the beam into the darkness.

"Haa... haaa...!"

Grace’s breath caught in her throat. Her face froze in absolute terror. The beam of light illuminated a horrifying, pitch-black, tar-like entity crouching in the dust. Its skin rippled like liquid shadow, and two glowing, yellow eyes locked onto hers. It let out a low, guttural growl that vibrated through the floorboards.

Panicking, Grace screamed and scrambled backward, her hands scraping against the hardwood floor as she desperately tried to get away. The sudden noise startled George, who sat upright in his bed, his eyes wide. But instead of looking terrified, his face fell into a mask of profound, tragic exhaustion.
