Previously: When maid Grace investigated a strange noise beneath her wealthy employer's antique bed, she expected dust—not a terrifying secret that would force her to run for her life.

A Dark Family Secret

The dark creature slowly slithered out from the confines of the bed, its long, shadowy limbs stretching across the expensive Persian rug. Grace cowered against the far wall, waiting for the beast to tear her apart. But to her utter shock, the creature did not attack. Instead, it approached the bed and gently rested its misshapen head against George's frail hand.

George stroked the entity’s dark, shifting skin with tears in his eyes. "I warned you, Grace," he whispered softly. "I told you some secrets are better left in the dark."

With a trembling voice, George confessed the truth. The creature was Julian, his firstborn son. Thirty years ago, Julian had been born with a rare, classified genetic mutation that corrupted his physical form. Fearing public ruin, medical experimentation, and the collapse of the family's multi-billion-dollar pharmaceutical empire, George had faked his son's death and hidden him away in the manor's secret passages.

"We protected him," George said, his voice suddenly hardening. "And we protected our family's name. But you... you have ruined everything by looking."

Grace’s eyes widened as George reached under his pillow and pulled out a sleek, silver revolver. The old man’s hand shook, but his gaze was deadly serious. He pointed the barrel directly at Grace's chest. He couldn't let her leave the manor with this secret. Grace pleaded for her life, her voice cracking as she realized she was trapped in a gilded cage with a desperate billionaire and a monster.

But just as George tightened his finger on the trigger, Julian let out a protective, deafening roar. The creature lunged, not at Grace, but toward his own father, snatching the heavy iron key to the bedroom door from George’s nightstand.
