Previously: When a military officer interrupted a glamorous gala with a classified black folder, Clara's world shattered. The secret inside revealed her father's true fate—and a betrayal closest to home.

A Choice and a Promise

The revelation hit Clara like a physical blow. She turned her gaze back to the ballroom, where General Sterling sat, casually sipping his champagne, entirely unaware that his twenty-year deception had just been unraveled. The very man who had walked her down the aisle had condemned her father to a living hell to protect his own political ambitions.

Rage, hot and sudden, replaced Clara's grief. She began to step toward the General, but Jack gently caught her shoulder, pulling her back.

"If you confront him now, he will use his influence to shut this down," Jack warned. "The helicopter outside is mine. I've been ordered to lead the extraction team. But Sterling has the power to recall the mission the moment he realizes we know the truth."
"Then what do we do?" Clara cried, tears spilling over her lashes, ruining her makeup. "We can't just let him get away with this! We can't leave my father!"

Jack looked at his wife, the woman he loved more than life itself, and then at the uniform he wore with pride. He made his decision. Walking back to the center of the ballroom, Jack stood before General Sterling's table. The guests watched in stunned silence as Jack tossed the black leather folder onto the table, right into the General's plate. The classified documents spilled open for everyone to see.

"General Sterling, your twenty-year cover-up is over," Jack announced, his voice ringing through the silent room. "I am launching the extraction of Captain Cole immediately. The Pentagon has already received a copy of these files. Your career, and your lies, end tonight."

The General's face turned a sickly shade of gray as whispers erupted through the ballroom. Jack turned on his heel, taking Clara’s hand. Together, they walked out of the French doors and toward the waiting helicopter, its blades roaring to life. Jack kissed Clara deeply before boarding, promising to bring her father home. True honor could never be hidden in a folder, and justice would finally be served.

The End
