The Secret My Late Father Left Behind in a Killer Bull's Arena
The Arena of Secrets
The golden sunset cast long, bleeding shadows across the dusty outdoor arena. At eighteen, Dylan felt entirely out of his depth, but the worn red bandana gripped in his trembling hand was his only connection to his late father, Thomas. The arena was quiet until the heavy wooden gate creaked open, releasing a mountain of dark fury. Ranger, a massive black bull weighing over a thousand pounds, charged into the dirt, kicking up clouds of golden dust.
Dylan’s foot caught on a rut, and he fell hard to the ground. Above him, the massive beast snorted, its muscles rippling under its dark coat. In the spectator stands, panic erupted. An onlooker yelled, "Hey!" while another screamed, "Kid, no!"
Frank, a seasoned rancher in his mid-forties wearing a classic tan cowboy hat, gripped the metal railing in sheer terror.
"What is he doing?!"he screamed, his voice carrying over the wind.
But Dylan didn't run. Rising to his knees, then slowly to his feet, he held up the red patterned bandana with trembling hands. Tears streamed down his dusty face.
"My dad said you'd know this!"he cried out, his voice cracking with emotion. The bull paused, its heavy breaths creating small dust storms on the ground.
"He said you waited for him."
Among the crowd, a woman named Grace gasped, holding her hand to her mouth. "Oh God..." she whispered as Ranger suddenly lowered his massive horns and charged directly at the boy. Dylan stood his ground, whispering,
"Please, don't leave me too."At the very last second, the bull’s dark, surprisingly calm eye locked onto Dylan's. The beast slid to a halt, stopping mere inches away. Dylan stared up in awe, whispering, "Ranger?" as the killer bull gently lowered his head.
