Previously: When server Sarah wore her late mother's green jade pendant to a high-society gala, she never expected a wealthy guest to collapse in pure horror at the sight of it.

The Secret in the Private Suite

The ballroom erupted into chaos. Security guards rushed forward, and an ambulance was called, but Eleanor’s personal physician, who happened to be attending the gala, quickly took charge. He directed the staff to carry the semi-conscious matriarch to a private VIP holding room upstairs. To Sarah’s absolute bewilderment, Eleanor’s personal assistant grabbed her arm. "She was asking for you before she blacked out," the assistant whispered urgently. "You need to come with us."

Trembling, Sarah set her tray down and followed them. Inside the quiet, luxurious suite, Eleanor was lying on a plush velvet sofa, a cold compress on her forehead. When the door clicked shut, her eyes flew open. She looked at Sarah, tears spilling down her wrinkled cheeks.

"Please, tell me the truth,"

Eleanor pleaded, gesturing for Sarah to sit beside her.

"Your mother, Marion... did she have a scar on her left wrist shaped like a crescent moon?"

Sarah’s breath hitched.

"Yes. She told me it was from a childhood accident. How could you possibly know that?"

Eleanor covered her face with her hands, sobbing uncontrollably.

"Because Marion was my younger sister,"

Eleanor whispered.

"And I am the reason she died in poverty."

The revelation hit Sarah like a physical blow. Her mother had always been secretive about her past, raising Sarah in a cramped apartment on a seamstress's meager wage, never speaking of any family. Eleanor took a deep, shaky breath and pointed at the jade pendant.

"That pendant was our mother's. It was supposed to be passed down to Marion. But forty years ago, when our father died, I wanted everything. The estate, the jewelry, the social standing. I framed Marion for a theft she didn't commit to get her written out of the will. She was cast out of the family, penniless and disgraced. I spent my entire life pretending she never existed to protect my reputation. But when I saw that jade pendant tonight, I knew my sins had finally caught up with me."
