Previously: When a young champion sneers at a 68-year-old woman entering a high-stakes shooting competition, he has no idea he is mocking a legendary figure with a score to settle.

A Masterclass in Humility

The crowd went dead silent as Lawrence set up the moving target program. Justin’s hands were sweating. He had never shot without his specialized electronic optics, but his pride prevented him from backing down. He took his position, took a deep breath, and called for the target. The mechanical target zipped across the lane. Justin fired. It was a good shot, landing in the 9.2 ring. He let out a breath, confident that under these conditions, the elderly woman couldn’t possibly beat him.

Then, Lois stepped up. She didn't wear any specialized shooting jacket or custom gloves. She simply lifted her heavy, vintage pistol with a single, steady hand. She didn't rush. She closed her eyes for a brief second, breathing in the familiar scent of the range, before opening them and lock-focusing on the track. The target released, flying at high speed. Bang!

The electronic scoring screen flashed. 10.0 — Dead Center.

The room erupted into deafening cheers. Justin stared at the screen, his face turning pale as he dropped his gaze to the floor. Lawrence stepped up to the microphone, his voice echoing through the speakers.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you have just witnessed a masterclass by Lois Vance, the undefeated 1988 national champion, and the very woman who designed and funded this community range decades ago before retiring to raise her family."

The revelation hit Justin like a physical blow. The legend he had read about in history books was standing right in front of him. He realized that his arrogance had blinded him to the true depth of the sport. Lois calmly packed her pistol back into her worn leather case, zipped it up, and looked at the humbled young champion.

"Respect is earned on the line, young man, not in the locker room,"
she said softly. With a gentle nod to Lawrence, Lois walked out of the range, her head held high, having finally reclaimed her peace and her legacy.

The End
