Hunter slid the glass door open with a sharp click, stepping from the freezing darkness into the stifling heat of the living room. The sudden draft of cold air made Sarah turn her head. Her laughter died instantly. Her eyes widened in sheer terror, her face draining of all color as she stared at the man she believed had died in action two years ago.

"Hunter?" she gasped, rising slowly from the sofa. "No... it can't be. They told me you were gone."

The man beside her, David, stood up quickly, his expression shifting from confusion to annoyance.

"Who is this, Sarah? And why is he holding Luke?"

Hunter didn't answer them immediately. He gently placed Luke on a nearby armchair, wrapping him in a thick wool throw blanket. Only then did he turn to face the couple, his eyes hard as flint.

"I was captured, not dead," Hunter said, his voice dangerously calm. "But more importantly, why was my son trapped outside in the snow in his pajamas while you two were sitting here laughing?"

Sarah looked horrified, turning her gaze to David. David cleared his throat, adjusting his expensive sweater.

"The boy was being disruptive," David said coldly, without a hint of remorse. "He needs discipline. A few minutes in the cold teaches him to respect my house. It's called tough love, soldier."

The revelation hit Hunter like a physical blow. Sarah had not only replaced him, but she had allowed a monster to abuse their son. Hunter stepped forward, his towering frame casting a shadow over David. The tension in the room was suffocating as the true nature of Luke's "happy" new home was laid bare.
