As Eleanor sobbed in Leo's arms, the young soldier immediately dialed emergency services. Within minutes, the quiet neighborhood was alive with the flashing blue and red lights of police cruisers. Vanessa, bruised and coughing from the dust of the shattered staircase, was dragged out of the debris by two officers. Yet, instead of showing remorse, she spat on the floor and glared at the trembling elderly woman with venomous eyes.

"You think you've won, Eleanor?" Vanessa shrieked, struggling against the handcuffs. "Tell him the truth! Tell your precious grandson how you murdered his father!"

Leo froze, his hand tightening around his grandmother’s shoulder. His father had passed away five years ago from what the family believed was a sudden heart attack. The grief had nearly destroyed them, and Eleanor had been Leo's sole anchor ever since. To hear Vanessa make such a monstrous accusation in front of the police felt like a physical blow.

Vanessa laughed hysterically as she was escorted toward the door. She claimed she had found medical documents proving Eleanor had slowly poisoned her own son to maintain control over the multi-million dollar Vance estate and the mansion. She swore she had only attacked Eleanor to force her to sign a confession before she destroyed the evidence.

The officers paused, looking at Eleanor, whose face had gone deathly pale. She looked up at Leo, her eyes filled with tears, but also a deep, unspoken sorrow. Leo's mind raced.
