Stepmother's Deadly Plot Caught on Nanny Cam: Brother's Split-Second Rescue Shocks Millionaire Dad
Previously: When Liam dives into the pool to save baby Sophie from a rolling stroller, his stepmother Astrid blames him. But little Maya has the nanny-cam footage that exposes the truth — and Astrid's lies unravel in seconds.
The Nanny-Cam Revealed Astrid's Plot, but the Recording Did Not Capture Her Motive — or the Shadow Who Had Helped Her
Later that evening, the sun sank below the Pacific horizon, painting the sky in bruised purples and oranges. Liam sat on the edge of the plunge pool, his legs dangling in the warm water, Sophie asleep in a bassinet nearby. Maya sat cross-legged on the deck, her iPad still clutched in her hands.
Alexander paced the terrace, his phone pressed to his ear. He'd already called his lawyers and the local sheriff. Astrid was in custody, but the questions were mounting.

“Why would she do it?” Alexander muttered, more to himself than to anyone. “She never wanted children, I knew that. But to try and drown Sophie?”
Liam looked up at his father. “Dad, there's something else. When I dove into the pool, I saw something under the water — a flash of metal, like a key. It didn't belong to any of us.”
Alexander's brow furrowed. “A key? Where?”
“By the drain, near the deep end. I grabbed it before I got out.” Liam reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, tarnished brass key, wrapped in a piece of cloth. “It was attached to a tag with a number on it.”
Maya leaned in, squinting at the tag. “It says 207. That's a safe-deposit box number.”
Alexander's face went pale. “Astrid's private safe-deposit box at the Malibu bank. I opened it for her when we got married — she said she wanted to keep some family heirlooms there.”
He grabbed the key from Liam's hand, his jaw tight. “I'm going to the bank now. You two stay here with the guards.”
“No,” Liam said, getting to his feet. “I'm coming with you. She tried to kill my sister — I need to know why.”
Alexander hesitated, then nodded. “Fine. Maya, stay with Sophie. Keep an eye on the nanny-cam.”
An hour later, Liam and his father stood in the vault of the Malibu bank, the brass key sliding into the lock of box 207. The door swung open, revealing a stack of documents and a single photograph.
Alexander's hands trembled as he lifted the photo. It showed a young woman — barely out of her teens — holding a newborn baby. The woman had the same platinum hair as Astrid, but her eyes were softer, kinder.
“Who is this?” Liam asked.
Alexander's voice cracked. “Her name is Eleanor. Astrid's older sister. She died in a car accident twelve years ago.” He flipped the photo over. On the back, in faded ink, were the words: “My daughter, Lily — born March 14. Please give her to my sister. She'll know what to do.”
Liam felt the blood drain from his face. “Astrid has a niece? A daughter of her sister's?”
Alexander nodded slowly, his eyes fixed on the document beneath the photo. It was an adoption certificate — for a baby girl named Lily, adopted by Astrid Montgomery three months after Eleanor's death.
“Lily,” Alexander whispered. “That's the child Astrid always told me she gave up for adoption before we met. But she didn't give her up — she adopted her herself.” He looked up, his expression hardening. “And she's been hiding her from me ever since.”
Liam's mind raced. “Where is Lily now?”
Alexander grabbed the rest of the documents. “There's a letter. It says Lily has been living with a foster family in San Diego. Astrid visited her every month, but she never told anyone.”
He looked at Liam, his eyes blazing with a mixture of fury and grief. “She tried to kill Sophie to protect this secret. She thought if Sophie was gone, I'd never hire a private investigator who might dig up her past.”
Liam clenched his fists. “We have to find Lily. And we have to make Astrid pay for what she did.”
Alexander nodded. “We will. But first, we need to bring Lily home.”
