Previously: When Liam dives into the pool to save baby Sophie from a rolling stroller, his stepmother Astrid blames him. But little Maya has the nanny-cam footage that exposes the truth — and Astrid's lies unravel in seconds.

Astrid's Secret Daughter Appeared on the Courthouse Steps, and the Truth Finally Broke Her — but Not in the Way Anyone Expected

Two weeks later, Liam stood in the family's beach house living room, watching his father pace by the floor-to-ceiling windows. The Pacific stretched endlessly beyond, but today the view couldn't soothe the tension crackling in the air.

The doorbell rang. Alexander froze, then strode to answer it. When he pulled the door open, a social worker stood on the threshold, beside a young girl of about nine years old — dark-haired, with hazel eyes that mirrored Sophie's.

“Miss Lily,” the social worker said gently, “this is your uncle, Alexander.”

Lily looked up at Alexander with a mix of fear and hope. “You're my mother's — my real mother's — sister's husband?”

Alexander knelt down, his voice thick with emotion. “I'm the man who's going to take care of you from now on, if you want.”

Liam stepped forward, Sophie on his hip. “Hi, Lily. I'm Liam. This is Sophie, and Maya's around here somewhere.”

Lily's eyes lit up at the sight of the baby. “She's so small.” She reached out a tentative hand, and Sophie grabbed her finger with a delighted squeal.

In that moment, Liam felt a strange warmth spread through his chest. This was his family — broken and stitched together in ways he never could have imagined.

But the story wasn't over. Astrid's trial was set for the following month, and the media had already latched onto the scandal. Every outlet was calling her the “Malibu Monster.”

Liam couldn't shake the feeling that Astrid had one more card to play. And he was right.

On the morning of the preliminary hearing, Astrid's lawyer filed a motion to suppress the nanny-cam footage, claiming it had been obtained illegally. If the motion passed, the entire case could collapse.

Liam sat in the courtroom, Maya clutching his hand, Sophie in a carrier at his feet. Alexander was on the stand, his voice steady as he recounted the events of that afternoon.

But then the defense attorney cross-examined him, and the room grew tense. “Mr. Montgomery, you claim your wife tried to drown your daughter. But isn't it true that you had been planning to divorce her for months — and that you'd hidden your own secret from her?”

Alexander's face darkened. “I don't know what you're implying.”

“I'm implying that you had motive to set her up,” the attorney said, handing him a document. “This is a paternity test, dated six months ago. It shows that you are not the biological father of your daughter Sophie.”

The courtroom erupted. Liam's heart stopped. Sophie wasn't his father's child?

Alexander stared at the paper, his hands shaking. “This is a lie. Sophie is my daughter — I raised her from birth.”

But the damage was done. Astrid, seated at the defense table, allowed a small, cold smile to cross her lips.

For a moment, Liam thought everything was lost. But then Maya tugged on his sleeve, her voice barely a whisper. “Liam, look at the date on that test. It's the same day Astrid's sister died.”

Liam's mind raced. He stood up, his voice cutting through the chaos. “Your Honor, that paternity test is a fake. My father's DNA was never tested — Astrid forged it. She wanted to destroy our family even if she went to prison for it.”

The judge called for a recess. Within hours, investigators confirmed the test was fraudulent — the lab signature was invalid, and the DNA samples had been tampered with.

Astrid's plot collapsed completely. She was convicted of attempted murder and child endangerment, sentenced to fifteen years in prison.

But the real victory came when Lily officially joined the family. She moved into the beach house, sharing a room with Maya and a nursery with Sophie. Liam watched them all together — Sophie giggling in Lily's arms, Maya showing her the nanny-cam app on her iPad — and felt a peace he hadn't known in months.

His father wrapped an arm around him. “You saved them, son. All of them.”

Liam shook his head. “We saved each other.”

And as the Pacific waves crashed against the shore, Liam knew that the love they'd rebuilt was stronger than any lie Astrid could ever tell.
