My Stepmother Treated Me Like a Maid, But Grandpa’s Hidden Bracelet Revealed the Shocking Truth
The Unexpected Homecoming
David adjusted his navy trench coat as he stepped into the grand classical foyer of his family home. He was holding a vintage teddy bear, a peace offering for his twelve-year-old daughter, Lily, whom he felt he had neglected during his long business trips. The house was dead quiet, save for a soft, rhythmic scratching sound and a muffled sob.
David walked further into the foyer and froze. Lily was on her knees, wearing oversized, dusty grey overalls. Her small hands were raw, clutching a heavy mop as tears streamed down her dirt-smudged cheeks.
"Dad, where are you?" she whispered to herself, too exhausted to notice the door opening.
Before David could drop his bags, his second wife, Victoria, stepped out of the dining room. She looked immaculate, holding a half-empty glass of red wine. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw him standing there.
"Why are you home early?" Victoria asked, her voice carrying a sharp, defensive edge.
David’s gaze shifted from his elegant wife to his weeping daughter on the marble floor. The contrast was sickening.
"Why is she on the floor?" David demanded, his voice trembling with a mixture of confusion and rising anger.
Hearing his voice, Lily gasped and scrambled toward him. She ignored Victoria’s warning glare and held up her trembling wrist, showcasing a tarnished silver bracelet with a heavy clasp.
"Grandpa gave it to me," Lily sobbed, clutching it tightly. "He said only you should read it. He said I'm the real heir to this house."
David stared at the silver links. It was his late father Arthur's signature bracelet. Before he could reach for it, Victoria stepped in, her face pale but her expression fierce.
"She doesn't know what she's saying," Victoria interrupted quickly, trying to block Lily from view. "She's been having delusions, David. I had her cleaning to keep her grounded."
