My Stepmother Treated Me Like a Maid, But Grandpa’s Hidden Bracelet Revealed the Shocking Truth
Previously: When David returned home early from a business trip, he found his daughter Lily cleaning the floors in tears. A secret bracelet left by her grandfather would soon shatter their family forever.
The Stepmother's Secrets
David gently but firmly pushed Victoria aside. He knelt in front of Lily, gently taking her small, cold hand. He unclasped the silver bracelet and turned it over in his palm. On the inside of the heavy silver clasp, a microscopic engraving catch the light. It was a sequence of numbers—a combination—followed by a single sentence: The truth is behind my portrait.
David felt a chill run down his spine. The combination belonged to his father's private wall safe in the library, a safe Victoria had claimed was completely empty and locked forever after Arthur's passing.
"David, this is ridiculous," Victoria stammered, her elegant facade rapidly crumbling. "Your father was senile at the end. Lily probably stole that from my jewelry box. She's a liar!"
"I'm not a liar!" Lily cried out, clutching her father's coat. "While you were away, she made me sleep in the attic. She told me if I told you, she would make sure I was sent to a boarding school and never saw you again! She made me clean the whole house every day!"
The horrifying truth washed over David. While he was away building an empire, his own daughter was being abused and enslaved by the woman he had trusted. He stood up, his eyes burning with fury as he looked at Victoria.
"You forced my daughter to work like a servant in her own grandfather's house?" David whispered, his voice dangerously low.
"I did what was necessary for this family!" Victoria hissed, her voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "If you open that safe, David, you will destroy our lives. I have the signed will that leaves everything to us. If you try to challenge me, my lawyers will tear your custody of Lily to shreds."
Victoria stood blocking the double doors of the library, her eyes wild. She was desperate, and a desperate woman was dangerous.
