The autumn wind swept through the narrow, cobblestone streets of Oakhaven, carrying with it the scent of rain and dying leaves. Vincent walked with his head down, the collar of his dark tweed jacket pulled up against the chill. The vibrant sunset painted the sky in deep shades of crimson and violet, casting long, eerie shadows across the pavement. Lost in his thoughts, Vincent reached into his pocket for his keys, completely unaware that a small, glossy piece of paper had slipped out and fluttered to the ground behind him.

A Shocking Encounter

He had only walked a few paces when a soft, melodic voice broke the silence of the evening. "Mister?"

Vincent stopped and turned. Standing on the glowing cobblestones was a young girl, perhaps six years old, wearing a pastel pink sweater that looked too large for her. In her tiny hands, she held the photograph. It was a picture of Clara, Vincent’s wife, laughing under an old oak tree.

"You dropped this," the girl said, her voice carrying an innocence that made Vincent’s chest ache.

"Thank you, sweetheart," Vincent said, offering a sad smile as he reached out to take it. But the girl did not let go. Instead, she stared intensely at the woman in the photo.

"Mister, why do you have a picture of my mommy?"

Vincent froze. The air seemed to leave his lungs in an instant. He stared at the little girl, his heart hammering violently against his ribs. "What did you say?" he whispered, his voice trembling.

"My mommy," Nora repeated simply, looking up at me with wide, earnest eyes.

Distress washed over Vincent like a tidal wave. He stepped closer, his knees shaking. "That's my wife, sweetheart. She died in an accident five years ago."

"No, my mom is alive," Nora asserted, her grip tightening on the photo. As Vincent reached out to gently retrieve the picture, the girl’s eyes suddenly shifted. The warm hazel of her irises bled into a terrifying, supernatural crimson, glowing faintly in the twilight. Vincent gasped, stepping back in absolute horror.
