A Stranger's Child Found the Photo of My Deceased Wife and Called Her Mom
Previously: When Vincent dropped a photo of his late wife on a cobblestone street, a little girl picked it up and claimed the woman was her living mother—with terrifying proof.
A Dangerous Reunion
"Who is 'they'?" Vincent demanded, stepping toward her. "Evelyn, tell me the truth! Is Clara alive?"
Evelyn sank into an armchair, the iron poker slipping from her grasp. Tears spilled down her pale cheeks. She explained that Clara’s family belonged to an ancient, secretive syndicate that exploited those born with the genetic crimson anomaly. When Clara became pregnant, she realized the syndicate would take her child to use as a weapon. To save Vincent from being murdered as collateral, Clara and Evelyn faked the car crash with the help of a sympathetic insider.
"She sacrificed her life with you to keep you safe," Evelyn sobbed. "But she could never truly leave. She has been hiding in the cellar annex of this house for five years, raising Nora in the shadows."
Vincent's head spun. Before he could speak, a hidden door disguised as a bookshelf slowly creaked open. Stepping out into the dim light of the living room was Clara. She looked older, her face pale and lined with exhaustion, but her eyes were the same beautiful green he had loved for a lifetime. Vincent let out a choked sob and rushed forward, folding her into his arms. The warmth of her body proved she was no ghost.
"I'm so sorry, Vincent," Clara whispered, weeping into his shoulder. "I wanted to run to you every single day. But Nora's gift is growing stronger, and we are running out of time."
Nora stepped out from behind her mother, her eyes perfectly normal now, and wrapped her small arms around both of them. Vincent knew that their lives would never be safe, and that they would have to spend the rest of their days running from the shadows. But as he held his wife and daughter, he felt a profound sense of peace. The truth had finally brought them back together, proving that even the darkest secrets cannot extinguish the light of a family's love.
