A Teen Waiter Fired For Helping A Collapsed Stranger Receives A Shocking Reward
Previously: When a compassionate young waiter is instantly fired for helping a battered stranger in the rain, he has no idea that his small act of kindness is about to change his life forever.
The rain soaked through Leo's thin uniform shirt, but the coldness in his chest had nothing to do with the weather. He had worked at the cafe for a year, saving every penny for college. In a single moment of compassion, his future had been wiped out by a ruthless manager. Yet, looking down at the shivering man beside him, Leo knew he could never regret his choice.
"Are you going to be alright?" Leo asked, helping Marcus sit up against the brick wall.
"I will be now, son,"Marcus said, his voice suddenly sounding much stronger than before. He kept the phone to his ear, speaking with absolute authority.
"I need the medical team and security at the Harbor branch. Now."
Within five minutes, the quiet street was flooded with the glaring headlights of two black SUVs. Several men in sharp suits rushed out, holding umbrellas. To Leo's utter astonishment, they bypassed him entirely and bowed respectfully to Marcus.
"Sir, we've been looking everywhere for you," one of the men said, wrapping a warm blanket around Marcus's shoulders. "After the mugging, we lost your tracker."
The Mask Slips
"I'm fine, Arthur," Marcus said, standing up with some effort. He looked at Leo. "This young man took care of me. While his boss threw him out like garbage."
Just then, the cafe door flew open again. Thomas stood on the threshold, his arrogant smirk instantly vanishing when he saw the luxury SUVs and the security detail. He recognized the emblem on the vehicles immediately. It was the corporate seal of the Midnight Harbor Restaurant Groupβthe massive conglomerate that owned this cafe and dozens of others like it.
"Mr. Vance?"Thomas gasped, his face turning a ghostly shade of white.
"I... I had no idea you were visiting this branch tonight! Please, come inside out of the rain!"
Marcus turned a cold, piercing gaze onto the trembling manager. "I was mugged three blocks away, Thomas. I came here seeking help from my own establishment. And you told your employee to let me rot on the pavement."
