The Warmth of Justice
Morgan reached out a heavy, leather-gloved hand to grab Nora's arm, but she didn't flinch. Instead, she raised her left hand, revealing her smartphone. The screen was glowing, displaying a live broadcast with a rapidly climbing viewer count and a flashing red icon at the top.
"It's too late, Morgan," Nora said, her voice steadying as she stared directly into his cold eyes. "I didn't just follow you here. The moment I saw your van, I started a live stream to the local community watch page. And I made sure to tag Detective Miller—Dad's old partner. He’s been watching this entire conversation."
Morgan froze, his hand hovering in mid-air. The smug satisfaction faded from his face, replaced by a sudden, pale panic. He looked at the phone, then back at Nora, realizing she had captured his entire confession about the arson on tape. From just a few blocks away, the faint but unmistakable wail of police sirens began to rise, cutting through the snowy silence of the city.
"You're bluffing," Morgan muttered, though his men were already looking nervously over their shoulders, ready to scatter.
"Try me," Nora whispered. Within seconds, the alley was flooded with red and blue flashing lights. The squad of tough men broke and ran, but police cruisers blocked both ends of the street. Officers swarmed the alley, quickly detaining Morgan and his accomplices. Detective Miller walked up, wrapping a warm blanket around Luke’s shaking shoulders before turning to cuff Morgan.
As the flashing lights painted the snowy alley in vibrant shades of blue and red, Nora pulled her brother into a tight, protective hug. The nightmare was finally over. The truth had set them free, proving that the warmth of sibling love and justice will always melt the coldest of betrayals.
