Previously: When billionaire Christian Vale visits an orphanage, a trembling boy's birthmark stops him cold. The director's cruelty hides a dark secret—and his wife's locket just shattered their world.

The Locket's Last Page

Three weeks later, the Vale mansion buzzed with a new kind of life. Lucas and Caleb had their own rooms, but they often ended up in the same bed, whispering about their past and dreaming of their future.

Hannah had framed the locket photo, placing it on the mantel. Christian had hired the best therapists, the best doctors, to help the boys heal. But Lucas couldn't stop thinking about Madame Vane's cryptic warning.

One evening, as the autumn leaves fell outside, Christian came home with a folder. His face was pale, his hands trembling.

"What's wrong?" Hannah asked.

Christian sat down heavily. "I hired a private investigator to trace the director's history. She worked at three other orphanages before Oakridge."

He opened the folder, revealing photographs of children—dozens of them, each with the same dark hair, the same brace.

"There were others," he said, his voice cracking. "She was running a ring. Selling children to the highest bidder."

Lucas walked in, Caleb behind him. "What's going on?"

Christian looked at his sons, his eyes wet. "We're going to find every single one of them. I promise you that."

But as the weeks turned into months, the search yielded nothing. The trail went cold, and the boys began to lose hope.

Then one night, Lucas woke to find Caleb standing by the window, staring at the moon.

"What are you doing?" Lucas whispered.

"I had a dream," Caleb said. "About a girl with red hair. She had the same mark on her wrist."

Lucas's blood ran cold. "Where?"

"I don't know. But she's out there."

They told Christian the next morning. He made a few calls, and soon a photograph arrived—a girl, age six, living in a foster home across the state. Her name was Emily, and she wore a brace on her left leg.

They drove there that afternoon. The foster mother was suspicious, but when Christian showed her the locket, she broke down.

"She came to us two years ago," the woman said. "The agency said she was abandoned. We never knew."

Emily was shy, hiding behind the door. But when she saw Lucas and Caleb, she stepped out, her eyes wide.

"You have the mark," she said softly.

Lucas nodded. "We're your brothers."

She ran into their arms, and for the first time, all three children felt whole.

That night, they gathered in the living room, Christian and Hannah watching their children laugh together. The locket sat on the table, its photo now replaced with a new one—three smiling faces.

"We found them," Hannah whispered.

Christian kissed her forehead. "All of them."

But as the fire crackled, Lucas glanced at the locket, and he saw it—a faint inscription on the inside edge he'd never noticed before. It read: "The fourth sleeps in the shadow of the oak."

He looked at his parents, a new resolve in his eyes. "There's one more," he said. "And I'm going to find her."

The night stretched on, but the search was far from over. Somewhere out there, a sister was waiting to be found.
