Previously: When a gold digger slams a forged blood chart to disinherit an 8-year-old, the child pulls out a sealed hospital cylinder that changes everything—and triggers a dramatic showdown.

The Key to the Old Library

The old library smelled of leather and dust, with towering shelves that reached the ceiling and a single stained-glass window casting colored patterns on the floor. Alistair's hand was steady as he slid the brass key into the safe hidden behind a portrait of his late wife.

Ella stood beside him, her small fingers gripping the edge of his tweed jacket. "What's inside, Grandfather?"

"I don't know, sweetheart. But your mother wouldn't have left it without reason."

The lock clicked, and the safe door swung open. Inside, there were binders—neatly labeled with years—and a single USB drive taped to the inside of the door.

Alistair pulled out the drive. "What's this?"

"Mommy said it was proof," Ella whispered. "Proof of everything."

They moved to the desk, where an old computer hummed to life. Alistair inserted the drive, and a folder opened. Inside, there were scanned documents, email chains, and a video file.

He clicked on the video. The screen flickered, and a woman's face appeared—Ella's mother, Alice, who had died two years ago in a car accident. Alistair's breath caught.

"Dad," Alice said, her voice gentle but urgent. "If you're seeing this, then I'm gone, and someone's trying to take Ella's inheritance. Diana isn't who she pretends to be. She's been working with Marcus—our family lawyer. They planned to forge the blood test and claim the estate for themselves."

Alistair's knuckles whitened. "Marcus?"

"He's the one who arranged the accident," Alice continued. "He wanted me out of the way. But I left this evidence with Ella, and I know she'll do the right thing. Please, Dad—don't let them get away with it."

The video ended. The room was silent.

Ella looked up at her grandfather, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Mommy knew?"

"Your mother was braver than any of us," Alistair said, pulling her into his arms. "And she left us a gift—the truth."

But the truth wasn't finished. As they scrolled through the documents, they found a bank account in Diana's name with millions in transfers from Marcus's firm. There were also emails discussing Ella's medical records—someone had been planning this for years.

"We need to call the authorities," Alistair said. "But first, there's something else." He opened a sealed envelope hidden behind the binders. Inside was a handwritten letter from Alice.

"Dear Dad," it read. "If you're reading this, you know the truth about Diana. But there's one more secret. Ella isn't just my daughter. She's the biological child of your brother's son—the one who ran away years ago. You have a grand-nephew out there, and he doesn't know he has a family."

Alistair's hand shook. "My brother's son..."

He looked at Ella, who was watching him with worried eyes. "Grandfather? What's wrong?"

"Nothing, sweetheart. Everything is finally right." But his mind was racing. If Marcus and Diana had known about the boy, they might have tried to find him too.

Suddenly, the library door burst open. A young man stood there—mid-twenties, with dark hair and the unmistakable Montgomery eyes. He held a gun, but his hands were trembling.

"Give me the drive," he said, his voice cracking. "I don't want to hurt anyone."

Alistair stepped in front of Ella. "Who are you?"

"I'm... I'm the one Diana hired to steal it. But I couldn't do it. I saw the video. I know what they did to my mother." He lowered the gun. "My name is Jake. I'm... I think I'm your grand-nephew."

The room fell into a stunned silence. Ella peeked out from behind her grandfather, and Jake's eyes softened.

"You're my cousin," she whispered.

Jake nodded, tears forming. "I didn't know. I grew up in foster care. Diana found me last month and told me I'd get a share if I helped her. But I couldn't—not after I saw what she did."

Alistair took a step forward. "Then help us. Help us bring them down—together."

Jake looked at the drive in Alistair's hand, then at Ella's trusting face. "I'll do whatever it takes."
