Previously: When top cadet Abigail Miller is suddenly handed a classified file at dusk, she discovers a heartbreaking family secret that threatens to destroy her entire military future.

The Target of Truth

Before Vance could reply, the floodlights of the shooting range suddenly flickered on, casting long, harsh shadows across the dirt. Two black sedans pulled up near the wooden gun racks, their headlights blinding. Men in dark suits stepped out, their intentions immediately clear. They weren't military police; they were private contractors hired to ensure Abigail's quiet departure.

“Colonel Vance, we are here to escort Cadet Miller,”

the lead agent announced, his hand resting near his holster.

Vance didn't hesitate. He stepped directly between the agents and Abigail, his hand resting on his own sidearm. “This cadet is under my direct supervision. Your authorization is revoked.”

As the lead agent drew his weapon, Abigail’s training took over. In one fluid motion, she loaded a non-lethal training round into her rifle, aimed, and fired. The shot grazed the agent’s hand, sending his weapon flying into the dirt. The other agents froze, stunned by her lethal precision and unwavering nerve.

Vance used the distraction to call in the base's actual military police, who arrived within minutes to detain the intruders. The high-risk confrontation forced the military command to launch a full investigation, which ultimately uncovered the conspiracy that had framed Richard Miller twenty years prior.

Abigail was not only reinstated, but she also stood proudly at her graduation, receiving her honors directly from Colonel Vance. As he pinned the medal to her uniform, he whispered, “Your father would be so proud, Abigail. You cleared his name.” Abigail smiled, realizing that true legacy isn't defined by the shadows of our past, but by the courage we summon to bring them into the light.
