The Truth Behind the Bruises on His Secret Chef's Face Changes Everything
Previously: When Matteo finds his secret ex-partner Elena bruised and crying in his restaurant's kitchen, a shocking revelation about their daughter uncovers a web of high-society lies.
A Family Reclaimed
Victoria gasped, her face draining of color. "You can't do this! Your family's reputation will be ruined! My father will pull his investments!"
"I don't care about the investments, and I certainly don't care about you," Matteo said, his voice cold as ice. "Get out of my restaurant, Victoria. If I ever see you near Elena or my daughter again, I will use every resource I have to ensure you spend the rest of your life behind bars for extortion and assault."
Realizing she had lost everything, Victoria spat a final curse at Elena before spinning on her heel and storming out of the kitchen, her heels clicking a frantic retreat. The heavy doors swung shut behind her, leaving a profound, healing quiet in their wake.
Matteo immediately turned back to Elena. He didn't care about the grease or the soot. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her tight against his chest. Elena let out a ragged sob, her hands gripping his midnight-blue suit jacket as if she were drowning and he was her only lifeline.
"I am so sorry, Elena," Matteo whispered into her hair, his own tears finally falling. "I should have looked for you. I should have questioned what they told me. Where is she? Where is our little girl?"
Elena pulled back slightly, a small, watery smile breaking through her pain. "She's with my mother, just a few blocks away. Her name is Lily. She has your eyes, Matteo."
Matteo gently wiped the tears from Elena's bruised cheek, his heart swelling with a mixture of grief for the lost years and overwhelming hope for the future. He took her hand, leading her out of the dark kitchen and into the warm light of the evening. They had a long road of healing ahead of them, but for the first time in five years, they were walking it together.
True wealth isn't found in high-society status or pristine reputations, but in the courage to protect the ones we love from the shadows of the past.
