My Uncle Sent Me Away With a Strange Biker, But His True Identity Changed Everything
The Coldest Day of My Life
The winter wind bit through Emily’s blue parka, but the chill in her bones had nothing to do with the freezing afternoon. Standing outside the red brick walls of her high school, she clutched her backpack like a shield. Behind her, standing on the concrete steps, was her uncle Thomas. He was the only guardian she had ever known, yet today, his face was masked with a grim urgency she had never seen before.
"You'll be fine. Breathe, kiddo,"
Thomas murmured, his voice barely carrying over the howling wind. But Emily couldn't breathe. Her heart hammered against her ribs as the distant, throaty roar of motorcycle engines broke the silence of the snowy afternoon. She watched in sheer terror as a pack of riders emerged from the gray mist, their heavy machines cutting through the slush.
The lead motorcycle, a powerful black cruiser, peeled away from the group and glided to a halt right in front of her. The rider was a rugged man in a worn brown leather jacket and dark aviator sunglasses. He killed the engine, the sudden silence heavy with anticipation. He pushed his sunglasses down slightly, locking his gaze onto Emily’s trembling form.
"Hey there. Looking for a ride?"
he asked, his voice surprisingly gentle despite his formidable appearance. Emily looked back at her uncle, who gave her a reassuring nod. Swallowing her fear, she took a step forward, the snow crunching beneath her boots.
"I... guess I am,"
she replied, her voice shaking as she prepared to step into the complete unknown.
