Previously: When James returned to his lavish estate early, he expected a quiet afternoon. Instead, he found his long-lost daughter Emily working as a maid under his ruthless new wife.

A Web of Deceit

James stood paralyzed, his gaze darting between his weeping daughter on the floor and his elegant, unbothered wife. "What is the meaning of this, Beatrice?" he demanded, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and sheer confusion. "Why is my daughter scrubbing our floors in a maid's uniform?"

Beatrice took a slow, deliberate sip of her wine, her expression perfectly serene. "Darling, don't raise your voice," she purred, walking over to stand right above Emily. "I simply hired a new cleaning agency to help with the estate. How was I to know they would send your runaway daughter? Though, honestly, it seems fitting. She wanted to disappear, and now she is finally doing something useful."

Emily flinched at Beatrice’s words, her hands trembling as she squeezed the sponge. James rushed forward, dropping to his knees on the wet tiles, ignoring the soapy water ruining his expensive charcoal suit. He grabbed Emily's shoulders, forcing her to look at him. "Emily, look at me. Please. What happened? Why did you leave?"

Through her tears, Emily finally found her courage. She looked at Beatrice with pure terror, then back at her father.

"She made me leave, Dad," Emily whispered, her voice cracking. "Two years ago, she found out about the trust fund my mother left me. She told me if I didn't sign it over to her and disappear, she would release doctored medical records that would ruin your business and put you in prison for financial fraud. I did it to protect you."

James felt a sickening chill run down his spine. He looked up at Beatrice, whose mask of elegant calm was beginning to crack, replaced by a sharp, venomous sneer. The woman he had married a year after his daughter's disappearance was not a savior, but a predator who had orchestrated his family's ruin from the very beginning.
