Previously: When wealthy Grace found a bruised, dirty boy eating at her high-society banquet, she was furious. But her son's tearful confession changed everything.

The Hero in Rags

The bustling noises of the banquet hall seemed to fade into a dull hum as Grace stared at Bobby. The bruises on the boy's face weren't from a street fight; they were the healing purple-and-yellow marks of a violent impact. Her gaze drifted to his tattered sneakers and the thin, dirt-streaked jacket he wore. This child had saved her only son, yet he was sitting here looking half-starved and neglected.

Grace slowly sank into the empty chair next to Bobby. The hostility that had consumed her moments ago evaporated, replaced by a crushing wave of guilt and gratitude. She reached out, her manicured hand trembling as she gently touched Bobby's shoulder. He flinched slightly, looking down nervously at his plate of spaghetti as if expecting to be scolded.

"Is this true, sweetheart?" Grace asked, her voice barely a whisper. "Are you the one who saved my Luke?"

Bobby swallowed hard, keeping his eyes glued to the table. He gave a small, hesitant nod.

"I saw the car coming," Bobby whispered. "He wasn't looking. I just... I didn't want him to get hurt."

Luke stepped forward, wrapping an arm around Bobby's shoulders.

"He's been living in the alley behind the park, Mom," Luke revealed, his voice thick with emotion. "I found him today and brought him here because he was hungry. He didn't want any money. He didn't even want to go to the hospital because he was scared they'd lock him up."

Grace felt a sharp pain in her heart. Bobby was an orphan, slipping through the cracks of a system that had failed him. While she had been celebrating her wealth and status, the boy who had preserved her entire world was starving in the shadows just blocks away.
