Previously: When Chloe pushed her mother-in-law Martha into a crocodile-infested river, she thought her inheritance was secured. She didn't expect her husband's desperate rescue—or the trap Martha had already set.

A Trap in the Jungle

Martha slowly sat up, her wet yellow dress clinging to her shivering frame. Despite the terror she had just endured, her eyes suddenly cleared, flashing with a cold, steel-like resolve. She looked at Chloe, then at her terrified son. Slowly, a faint, mocking smile appeared on her lips.

"You always did underestimate me, Chloe," Martha said, her voice remarkably steady. "You thought I didn't notice the missing files from my study? You thought I didn't see the forged signatures on my bank statements?"

Chloe's eyes narrowed, her grip on the knife tightening. "It doesn't matter what you saw. You're in the middle of nowhere. No one is coming to save you."

Martha reached into the heavy, waterproof pocket of her floral dress and pulled out a small, blinking black cylinder. It was a military-grade satellite transmitter and microphone, completely waterproof. "We aren't in the middle of nowhere, Chloe. This entire trip was a setup. I hired a private security team to shadow us. Every word you just said, including your confession about the forgery, has been broadcast and recorded live."

Right on cue, the loud, mechanical roar of a high-speed motorboat shattered the jungle peace. From around the river bend, a local police launch surged forward, spraying white foam. Armed officers stood on the deck, their weapons pointed directly at the wooden canoe.

Chloe dropped the knife, the color draining from her face as she realized her perfect crime had been a trap from the very beginning. Within minutes, she was handcuffed and pulled onto the police boat, screaming curses that were drowned out by the engine.

As the rescue boat towed their canoe back to safety, David wrapped his jacket around his mother's shoulders, tears of relief in his eyes. Martha held his hand tightly, proving that a mother's instinct to protect her family is far stronger than any predator's jaws.

True justice doesn't just wait for the wicked; sometimes, it lures them exactly where they deserve to fall.
