A Father Returns Home Early and Catches His New Wife Humiliating His Daughter
A Cruel Homecoming
The polished marble floor of the Henderson estate was cold, but not as cold as the heart of the woman standing over it. Sophia, a gentle light-brown-haired nineteen-year-old, was on her hands and knees. Clad in a dark blue maid's uniform that was several sizes too large, she scrubbed the immaculate floor. Tears streamed down her face, dripping into the bucket of soapy water. Her hands were red and raw from hours of labor, but she dared not stop.
Behind her, sitting gracefully on a plush velvet chair, was Diana. Dressed in a stunning, deep green evening gown, Edward’s new wife sipped her wine with a look of pure satisfaction. To Diana, Sophia was not a stepdaughter; she was an obstacle, a reminder of Edward's late wife, and a nuisance to be broken.
"Make sure you get those corners, Sophia," Diana sneered, her voice dripping with venom. "Your father might have pampered you, but in this house, you earn your keep."
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany double doors of the mansion swung open. The sound echoed through the grand foyer, catching both women by surprise. Edward, clad in his sharp pin-striped business suit, stepped inside. He had cut his business trip short to surprise his family, but the scene before him made his blood run cold.
Sophia looked up, her eyes wide with a mixture of terror and hope. Gasping through her tears, she scrambled to her feet and cried out.
"Dad! Dad, she's making me..."
Diana instantly stood up, her cruel expression melting into a sweet, practiced smile. She smoothed down her green gown and stepped forward, trying to block Edward's view of the bucket and the uniform.
"Edward! Darling, you're home early!" she cooed, her voice trembling slightly.
But Edward didn't move. His gaze bypassed his wife entirely, locking onto his weeping daughter. His chest heaved with rising fury as he took in the maid's outfit, the bucket, and the raw pain in Sophia's eyes. Slowly, he looked back at Diana, his eyes turning ice-cold.
"Why is my daughter kneeling?" he demanded, his voice dangerously low.
