Grace wrapped her light pink puffer jacket tighter around herself, trying to block out the biting wind. She was rushing to meet her fiancé, Austin, who had texted her to join him and his friends outside a local cafe. Grace had been looking forward to a warm cup of coffee and some comfort, but as she approached the group, her foot slipped on a patch of wet leaves.

With a sudden gasp, Grace lost her footing and tumbled hard onto the cold, damp ground. Pain shot through her knee, but the emotional sting that followed was far worse. Instead of rushing to her side, Austin let out a loud, mocking laugh. His collegiate green jacket shook as he pointed at her, completely amused by her misfortune. One of his friends shouted,

"Woo! Look at her!"

while another chimed in,

"And she wiped out."

They chuckled together, treating her painful accident like a cheap street performance.

Tears pricked Grace’s eyes, not just from the physical pain, but from the crushing weight of humiliation. The man who had promised to cherish her forever was standing just feet away, actively participating in her mockery. But before she could scramble to her feet, another man rushed forward. He wore a simple navy blue zip-up jacket, his expression filled with genuine concern. He knelt beside her immediately, offering a steady hand.

"Hey, you okay? Easy, easy, let me help you up. You good?"

he asked gently. Grace looked up, her voice trembling as she replied softly,

"Yeah."

Helping her stand, the stranger ensured she was stable before turning his attention to the laughing group. His eyes darkened with anger.

"All right, stay right here,"

he told Grace, before glaring directly at Austin.

"Is that how you treat people?"
