A Heartless Manager Fired Me For Helping A Stranger, Then Black SUVs Arrived
A Stormy Night at Midnight Harbor
The rain beat against the glass of Midnight Harbor Cafe like a relentless drum. Inside, nineteen-year-old Landon carefully wiped down the polished wooden counters, trying to ignore the constant pacing of his manager, Troy. Troy was a man obsessed with margins, numbers, and keeping the "wrong crowd" out of his pristine establishment. To him, people were either paying customers or nuisances.
Suddenly, a shadow loomed against the wet glass. A man in a distressed, muddy leather jacket staggered toward the window, his face bruised and pale. He collapsed against the glass, sliding down onto the cold, wet asphalt. Landon’s heart skipped a beat. He dropped his rag and moved toward the door, but Troy’s heavy hand clamped down on his shoulder.
"Don't get involved, Landon," Troy warned, his voice cold and sharp. "We have paying customers in here. We don't need that kind of drama drawing negative attention."
Landon shook his head in disbelief, looking from his boss back to the shivering man outside. "Something's wrong with him," Landon insisted, pulling away from Troy's grip. Defying his manager's orders, Landon pushed open the heavy glass door and plunged into the freezing rain.
He knelt on the wet asphalt beside the stranger, shielding him from the downpour as best as he could. "Sir? Can you hear me?" Landon asked, his voice filled with genuine concern. The man groaned, slowly blinking open his eyes. "I'm okay," he whispered hoarsely.
Landon quickly pulled a bottle of water from his apron pocket. "Take some water. Just stay with me." The man took a weak sip, his eyes reflecting a deep, quiet gratitude. "Thank you. Thank you," he whispered. Behind them, the cafe door flew open again. Troy stood under the awning, his face red with fury. "Get back inside right now, Landon!" he yelled. Landon looked back, shouting over the rain, "He needs help, Troy!" Troy sneered, snapping back, "Then you're fired!" Max looked at Landon, saying, "when nobody else would," while Troy sneered, "Not my problem," and Max called on his phone, "Yeah. I'm outside Midnight Harbor Cafe."
