The cold autumn rain had turned the concrete pavements of the city into a treacherous, slick mirror. Chloe pulled her bright yellow raincoat tighter around her frame, shivering as she hurried down the street. Her mind was a whirlwind of heartache and embarrassment. Just a week ago, Zach, her boyfriend of two years, had abruptly dumped her, claiming she didn't fit into his "high-society lifestyle" anymore.

Lost in her thoughts, Chloe's foot caught on an uneven patch of wet concrete. With a sudden gasp, she lost her balance, her feet slipping out from under her. She crashed hard onto the cold, wet pavement, scraping her knees and hands.

Instead of a helping hand, the sound of harsh, mocking laughter echoed through the damp air.

A Cruel Humiliation

Chloe looked up through her wet blonde hair to see Zach standing just a few yards away, wearing his signature red varsity jacket. He was surrounded by his arrogant buddies, all of them snickering.

"Woo! Look at her!"

one of Zach's friends shouted, pointing his finger.

"And she wiped out,"

another sneered, shaking his head.

Zach didn't even try to help. He just smirked, enjoying her humiliation. Tears pricked Chloe's eyes as she tried to gather her spilled belongings.

But before she could attempt to stand, a shadow fell over her. A young man in a dark green parka rushed forward, his face etched with genuine concern. He knelt beside her on the wet concrete.

"Hey, you okay? Easy, easy, let me help you up. You good?"

he asked gently, offering a strong, steady hand.

Chloe looked into his kind eyes and whispered softly,

"Yeah."

As he helped her to her feet, ensuring she was steady, his gentle demeanor shifted into something fierce. He turned his gaze toward Zach and his laughing friends.

"All right, stay right here,"

he told Chloe softly. Then, he glared at the group, his voice cutting through the rain.

"Is that how you treat people?"
