He Mocked His Ex for Falling, Unaware of Her Savior's Identity
Previously: When Chloe slipped on the wet pavement, her ex-boyfriend Zach laughed and mocked her. But the kind stranger who helped her up held the power to destroy Zach's entire future.
Zach’s smirk widened as he stepped forward, sizing up the man in the green parka. To Zach, this stranger was just another ordinary guy meddling in things that didn't concern him. He scoffed, crossing his arms over his red varsity jacket.
"Why do you care, man? She’s just a clumsy nobody,"
Zach sneered, loud enough for his friends to chuckle.
"Besides, she's my ex. I know exactly what she's worth, and trust me, it's not worth getting your boots wet."
Chloe felt a fresh wave of humiliation wash over her. She tugged at the stranger's sleeve, wishing they could just walk away.
"It's fine,"
she whispered.
"Let's just go."
But the man in the parka didn't budge. In fact, his jaw tightened, and a cold, calculating look came over his face. He stared at Zach, then slowly let out a dry, humorless laugh.
The Unmasking of a Bully
"A clumsy nobody?"
the man repeated, his voice dangerously calm.
"Is that what you think, Zach?"
Zach blinked, his smug expression faltering slightly.
"Wait... how do you know my name?"
The stranger slowly pulled back his hood, revealing sharp, aristocratic features and a pair of piercing gray eyes that Zach suddenly recognized from countless corporate newsletters.
"My name is Luke Sterling,"
the man said quietly.
"And your father’s logistics company has spent the last six months begging my family's firm, Sterling Enterprises, for a merger that would save you from bankruptcy."
Zach’s face drained of all color. The bravado vanished instantly, replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated terror. His friends stopped laughing, suddenly looking very interested in their shoes.
"M-Mr. Sterling?"
Zach stammered, his voice cracking.
"I—I didn't realize... I was just joking around. We were just having some fun."
"I don't find it funny,"
Luke replied, his voice like ice.
"And I don't think my father will either."
