Previously: When Arthur confronted his mother for firing their quiet maid, Sarah, he didn't expect a silver pocket watch to unlock a devastating family secret about his late wife and young son.

The tension in the foyer was thick enough to suffocate. Eleanor rushed down the winding staircase, her heels clicking sharply against the cold marble floor.

"Arthur, do not listen to this hysterical girl. She is trying to extort us! She stole that watch from my private collection!"

"It was never yours!"

Sarah cried out, standing her ground despite her trembling frame. She pointed a finger at Eleanor.

"You took it from Celeste's things after you banished her! My sister loved Arthur, and she loved her baby. She would have never left them!"

The Hidden Key

Arthur felt a cold dread wash over him. For five years, he had lived with the agonizing belief that Celeste had simply walked out on their newborn son because she couldn't handle the pressure of marrying into his wealthy family. Eleanor had been the one to comfort him, the one who handled the "disappearance" and later brought news of Celeste’s tragic death in a distant hospital.

"Arthur, look at the watch,"

Sarah pleaded, stepping closer.

"Press the crown three times."

With trembling hands, Arthur took the silver pocket watch. He pressed the crown. With a soft click, the back of the watch popped open, revealing not just the ticking gears, but a tiny, intricately carved brass key nestled inside a hidden compartment.

"That key opens the antique writing desk in your mother's private study,"

Sarah whispered, her voice shaking.

"The desk she keeps locked day and night. Inside, you will find the truth. You will find Noah's mother."

Eleanor’s face drained of all color.

"Arthur, I forbid you to go up there. This is a violation of my privacy! I raised you, I protected this family's reputation!"

"Reputation?"

Arthur whispered, his eyes flashing with a sudden, dangerous fire. He looked at his mother as if seeing her for the first time.

"If you have nothing to hide, Mother, then you won't mind if I open the desk."
