Previously: When Evelyn found her long-lost husband Matthew living as a homeless man with amnesia, she staged a public proposal to protect him—only for her family's guards to intervene.

The Final Reckoning

Arthur’s face remained cold and unmoved. "Do not test me, Evelyn. You have always been weak. This man is a threat to our entire empire."

But before Arthur could pull the trigger, Matthew stood up. The sheer shock of the confrontation had shattered the remaining walls of his amnesia. His posture shifted, reclaiming the commanding presence of the brilliant CEO he once was. He looked Arthur dead in the eye.

"Project Lazarus, Arthur," Matthew said, his voice steady and cold. "I remember everything. And I know you never found the backup server key."

Arthur froze, his confidence instantly evaporating. "That's impossible. We destroyed your servers."

"You destroyed the physical drives," Matthew countered with a grim smile. "But the decryption key was uploaded to a secure public ledger. If I do not log in and enter a safety code every forty-eight hours, the entire file—containing all your illegal transactions and the evidence of my attempted murder—is automatically sent to the federal authorities."

Evelyn pulled out her phone, showing the screen to her father. "And right now, Father, we are broadcasting this entire conversation live to the board of directors and the police. I started the stream the moment your cars pulled up."

Sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second. Arthur realized he was utterly defeated. His guards slowly lowered their weapons, refusing to face complicity in a televised murder. Within minutes, the local police swarmed the cabin, putting Arthur in handcuffs and leading him away.

Months later, Matthew had reclaimed his company and his life, his memory fully restored. But the greatest treasure he recovered wasn't his wealth or his status. Sitting on the porch of their new home, he slipped the gold ring onto Evelyn’s finger.

True love has a way of remembering what the mind tries to forget, proving that no amount of wealth or power can destroy a bond written in the heart.
