For a brief moment, Eleanor believed she had won. She stood tall, expecting Richard to back down in fear of losing his daughter. But Richard took a deep breath, looking down at his daughter's sweet, innocent face, and knew he had to be strong. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone again, dialing a number on speakerphone. It was his late wife’s family attorney and lifelong friend, Arthur.

"Arthur," Richard said, his voice steady. "I have Eleanor here. She is threatening to use a letter supposedly written by Sarah to challenge my custody of Lily."

On the speaker, Arthur let out a dry, dismissive chuckle.

"Richard, that is legally impossible. Three weeks before she passed, Sarah sat in my office and signed a fully notarized, ironclad custody decree ensuring you would have sole guardianship under any circumstances. Furthermore, she specifically added a clause stating that Eleanor was never to be granted custody or unsupervised access to Lily due to her history of financial manipulation."

Eleanor’s face drained of what little color it had left. Her hands began to shake. Richard looked up at her, a cold smile playing on his lips.

"And what's more, Eleanor," Richard added, pointing to the security cameras lining the ceiling. "This entire security system records high-fidelity audio. You just attempted to blackmail me using a forged document, and it is all saved on a cloud server. That is a felony."

Realizing she had lost everything, Eleanor grabbed her purse and fled the house, slamming the door behind her. She was arrested two days later when she tried to cash a forged check from Sarah's old account. With the toxic presence gone, Richard made a promise to himself. He scaled back his hours at work, choosing to spend every precious moment with Lily. True wealth wasn't in the marble floors of his grand house, but in the laughter of his daughter, finally safe and smiling once more.
