The air inside Vanderbilt & Co. was thick with the scent of polished mahogany, fresh-cut white roses, and expensive French perfume. Ten-year-old Lily clutched her grandfather Arthur’s hand tightly, her eyes wide as they drifted over the velvet-lined glass cases. To Lily, the exclusive boutique was a magical palace of sparkling lights and endless wonders. She stopped in front of a brilliant diamond necklace, its flawless facets catching the soft halo lighting from above and casting tiny rainbows across her face.

"Grandpa, if I ever become rich, I'll come back for this one,"

she whispered, her face pressed close to the immaculate glass. Arthur, a gentle man wearing a well-worn brown corduroy jacket and a faded flat cap, smiled warmly and patted her shoulder with his calloused hand. But their quiet moment of shared dreaming was abruptly shattered.

Sarah, a sales associate with a sharp glare, leaned over the counter. Her voice cut through the quiet boutique like a shard of broken glass.

"Don't stand there dreaming over things you'll never touch,"

she snapped, her eyes scanning Arthur's old jacket and scuffed shoes with clear disdain. Arthur flinched, immediately stepping forward to shield his granddaughter from the woman's harsh gaze.

"Please, she's only a child,"

he pleaded softly, his voice trembling slightly with a mix of embarrassment and protective anger. But before Sarah could reply, a tall, imposing man in a sharp charcoal grey suit walked up from the back. It was Richard, the floor manager. He sneered at Arthur, looking down his nose with absolute authority.

"Then teach her her place before bringing her in here,"

Richard declared coldly. He pointed a manicured finger toward a magnificent, gold-framed portrait hanging on the mahogany wall behind the counter. It depicted a distinguished gentleman from decades ago. Richard smirked and asked,
