The soapy water on the cold, reflective marble tiles felt freezing against Sarah’s knees. At just twenty-five, she had experienced more hardship than most people did in a lifetime. Clad in a heavy, scratchy grey maid's uniform, she kept her head down, desperately scrubbing away a stubborn stain near the base of the grand spiral staircase. Tears slipped silently down her cheeks, mixing with the soapy water. She had taken this job out of sheer desperation, sent by a high-end domestic agency to clean one of the most opulent villas in the city. She had no idea whose house it was—until the front door clicked open.

The word escaped her lips before she could stop it. Robert stared in utter disbelief, his briefcase slipping slightly from his hand. The shock on his face was palpable, a mix of horror, guilt, and profound confusion. Sensing the danger of the moment, Sarah quickly lowered her head again, sobbing softly as she resumed scrubbing the floor, trying to hide her face from the man who had abandoned her.

"You're home so early, darling,"

she said, her tone dripping with casual indifference as she walked toward him, completely ignoring the crying maid on the floor.
